a blog of Creative Writing (Prose) course, English Department, Faculty of Humanities University of Indonesia.
At the end of the course students are expected to have polished drafts of two short stories. Throughout the semester we work on the drafts intensively, treating them as ongoing projects, and the class discussions are designed to explore various perspectives and approaches in presenting the elements of prose fiction: character, plot, setting, point of view, tone, and theme.
Students write stories in English (to be posted soon) but the literary works discussed in class also include those written by Indonesian authors.
Please check our Stealing with Style page to see short stories recommended by students.
Some of our events such as “Meet the Authors” are open for general public.
